My debut album ‘a permanent reminder’ is out on 3RD OCTOBER.
I sat in our spare bedroom with my home studio set up writing, recording, programming and mixing alone. Not just because thatβs how it has often felt to be a disabled musician but because I wanted to fully hold on to something I could control; not my health, not how the world perceives me, but my music. Itβs always been my music.
I have tried my hardest to not let my disability touch every detail of my life, but the truth is, thatβs impossible. It affects how you feel, think, what you believe in and what you place your hope in. I put on a mask for the outside world, and sometimes I forget to take it off for myself. So, in some of those moments where I have been truly honest with myself, I wrote these 13 songs.
This album is full of grief, love, heartbreak, joy, fear, and hope.
I’m not sure what to expect putting this into the world but I just wanted it to exist and I’m truly proud of it. Can’t wait for you to hear it.
For many years, within my school guitar teaching, I have been supporting young pupils to write their own songs. This school year (24/25) is the first time we’ve posted the children’s creations online. I’m super proud of what the children have achieved – they also got the chance to perform these songs live to their friends and families before the end of term!
First up are the groups I work with at Goosewell Primary School (the children range from 7-11 years old and work in groups of 4.) All pupils play their guitars in the recordings and then can choose if they wish to sing as well! The groups choose the chords, the style and write the lyrics!
Bite Me (written and performed by Arabella, Amber, Arthur & Niamh)
Bored of… You (written and performed by Arya, Clarisse, Edith & Molly)
Serious Boxes (written and performed by Eli, Nathaniel, Nic & Seth)
No Matter What You Say (written and performed by Elliot)
Look Forward (written and performed by Bella, Holly, Morris & Olivia)
Tank for the Turtles (written and performed by Isaac & Lomond)
Every Warrior’s Dream (written and performed by Hunter & Nathan)
Girl Star Power (written and performed by Darcy, Eden, Imogen & Josephine)
Up next are the groups I work with at Shakespeare Primary School (again, the children range from 7-11 years old and work in groups of 4.) All pupils play their guitars in the recordings and then can choose if they wish to sing as well! The groups choose the chords, the style and write the lyrics!
Keep on Changing (written and performed by Moez, Neeraj, Owen & William)
Love’s Next Move (written and performed by Abigail, Archie, Keegan & Samantha)
Parallel Universe (written and performed by Oliver, Tamzyn, Weller & Zack)
Wish I Knew (written by Julia, Lauren, Scarlett and performed with Hollie)
Wishing for a Heart (written and performed by Alaya, Amelia, Sophie)
I released my song ‘vanilla milkshake’ nearly 2 weeks ago and the support I’ve received has been so brilliant and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who checked out the video or streamed the song on the platform of their choice!
I wrote, played, programmed and produced everything on the track in our spare bedroom and it means a lot that people actually care enough to listen!
So, it’s pretty awesome to report that ‘vanilla milkshake’ got played on the radio!
I want to thank Chris & Zac over at Ocean City Radio Plymouth, for not only playing my track but for the very kind words! I still find it tricky calling myself a ‘producer’ so to hear that you both liked the production got me like ππ!
If you wanna have a little listen, the link is below – the show highlights lots of local artists and bands so have a listen – vanilla milkshake comes in at 44:23!
So, the project that I’ve been working on ended up becoming an album!
At the end of last year, I was thinking of putting together a little project but I couldn’t stop writing… and soon it became 13 songs and although I’m finding it tough to call it an album, that’s what it is.
I’m making it up as I go along, I’m working on making all the songs sound the best they can and making it the most accessible for people to listen to, so please bear with me whilst I explore how to make it all happen.
I’ve written, performed and produced everything as it’s been really important to me, as a disabled musician that I take full control of what I’ve created. I’m currently in the mixing and mastering stage and I can’t wait to share it with everyone.
Check out my new song ‘Keep Your Balance’ written, performed and produced by me! π
I wrote this song as a reminder that when you’re facing challenging situations, sometimes just getting through it and looking after yourself is all you can do, and that is more than enough. I often need to remind myself this!
I put this music video together – it’s full of lots of old videos of me singing, dancing and performing! The rule was that all the videos were of me 21 years and under! Enjoy watching some vintage 90s quality camcorder footage!
Please check out the lyric video for my new song ‘Stargazer Lily’ – written, performed and produced by me. This song means a lot to me so I hope it ends up meaning something to you too.
If you haven’t managed to check out either ‘Take Care’ (2021) or ‘New Plans’ (2022) yet, or you’ve just found out about me or, you want to listen more… you can check out both EPs on YouTube for free!
I’ll be performing for the first time in 4 years on Wednesday the 26th July, and it only felt right to return to Jessie Mullen’s ‘Cafe Acoustica’ night at The B-Bar, Plymouth.
I’m very excited (and nervous) to be returning to the stage with a lot of material that’s never been performed live. It’s been a long journey back here and I really hope to see you there to celebrate with me!
