Inspired by recent events in the UK, and the hatred and abuse it has led to, I’ve written a new song, ‘Allies’.
I am deeply upset about the divides that people have put up between us and I feel powerless to stop it. So in hope, that I can make a small difference, I wrote this song for those who are in need of it.
And I quote I saw recently, which I hope this song does ‘Comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.’ We fight against hate, we fight hate, with love.
LYRICS:
You’re not angry enough about the hurt this could cause
You’re not angry enough about how we’ve become lost
Feel so powerless on these streets
Against the hatred that we meet
It’s pretty hard to fathom, to believe
That somebody could hate so effortlessly
If we don’t stop it now, we have no power in the future
When it gets worse
And people get hurt
And we pass the blame to one another
Think of everything that you love the most
Think of everything that you hold close
And what about those? What about those?
Who only have their hearts to give
Only have their hearts to live
You’re not angry enough about the hurt this could cause
You’re not angry enough about how we’ve become lost
If we stand in silence
We justify the violence
And I stand here peacefully here beside you as your ally.
Does hate just run through the veins?
Make all the love just fade away?
We just sit here with our torch
Hoping that there’s still hope to look for
I know I have privilege
I won’t experience the prejudice
First hand, but I can hold out my hand
‘coz all I have
Is my heart to give
I only have my heart to live
You’re not angry enough about the hurt this could cause
You’re not angry enough about how we’ve become lost
If we stand in silence
We justify the violence
And I stand here peacefully here beside you as your ally
If you feel unsafe in your home
Please hold on to hope
There may be good in us just yet
If you feel unsafe in your home
Please know that you’re not alone
There may be good in us just yet
Just yet
You’re not angry enough about the hurt this could cause
You’re not angry enough about how we’ve become lost
If we stand in silence
We justify the violence
And I stand here beside you peacefully
We will stand here peacefully
As allies
